Winter is now in full swing, which means we put away all the summer tops and dresses and bring out the winter sweaters and coats, right? Wrong! Many of us complain that winter clothing is not cute nor flattering due to the multiple layers we wear to stay warm. To all of my fellow winter-haters, one of my favorite things to pull off during the chilly season is over-the-knee socks, tall boots, and a long sleeve dress.
Throwing on a pair of over-the-knee socks is so effortless and requires little to no thought, yet can add just the right amount to any look you’re going for. I completed this look with my mini square scarf to both keep my neck warm and tie the whole look together. Neckties have been my favored choice of accessory this season when wearing solid colors. They add a pop of color when wearing an all black outfit or even just an elegant twist to any outfit. This combo allows you to spruce up a cozy dress while still looking cute and feeling warm. During the colder season, I would throw a coat over this outfit and wear it anywhere from a quick run out the door, to a small get together with friends.
Utilizing all the clothes, accessories, and shoes in your closet is essential before going out to buy more or whenever a new trend (or old trend) comes out. I have found that cleaning out my closet every three or four months not only reminds me of that top a friend let me borrow a month ago but also allows me to style old pieces in new ways. I try my best to avoid fast fashion stores that come out with new items every week, but we all give in sometimes. However, a tall pair of brown or black boots is essential for the fall and winter season. The light brown boots worn above are The Lucky Brand and I am able to style them with anything from dark or light denim to my favorite casual blouse. You can find simple boots and over-the-knee socks like these almost anywhere.
Denim is currently taking over the industry and I am not complaining! There are so many different washes, light, dark, moon wash, faded, etc. This is one of my favorite denim pieces that I thrifted from Buffalo Exchange. You’ll be sure to see many more denim pieces in my future articles!
