STYLE GURU STYLE: Dress(ing) for Winter

With winter break consisting of cozy lounge apparel and just a few too many episodes of our favorite Netflix show, it can be difficult to come back to school and readjust to the college routine. The temperatures are frigid, assignments are already piling up, and our fashion is in need of major help.

I am definitely not a fan of the cold weather, and therefore I do not experiment much with my style in the winter. My winter wardrobe consists of mostly jeans, oversized sweaters, and a long, warm jacket. However with some time over the break, I figured it was about time to switch up my dull winter style and play around with the pieces in my closet. So who says that you can’t mix your summer and winter clothes together? Sometimes when you combine the most unexpected items, you end up creating a new favorite look. This stylish dress and T-shirt pairing is a perfect example of that.

In this look I chose to pair a suede slip dress over a black long sleeve T-shirt. A sleeveless dress in the winter would never have crossed my mind, but by wearing it over this long sleeve top, it creates a stylish look that is appropriate for colder temperatures. The suede material is soft and comfortable, and it also features a major trend right now: lace-up detailing. I chose to stick with just two neutral colors, tan and black, in order to keep the dress as the focal point of the ensemble. To accessorize this look I added a pair of black leather boots, a black crossbody bag, and a gold watch. The gold details on all three of these accessories create cohesiveness throughout this edgy, yet chic, ensemble.

Next time you find yourself in a monotonous fashion stage, try digging out some of your summer clothes and experimenting with ways to incorporate them into a winter outfit. Why should your favorite dress be tucked away in the depths of your closet for half of the year? Bring it back out and utilize it by pairing it under, or over, a long sleeved top. If you are like me, and tend to always stick with jeans for the majority of the year, try surprising yourself with a dress for winter!
