STYLE GURU STYLE: Du Jour Jammies

It is time to whip out those fancy PJ’s that have never seen the world outside of your bedroom and strut your stuff out on the town. Although, I’d recommend keeping the fluffy penguin pajamas behind closed doors. Dolce&Gabbana’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection featured an array of delicate floral patterns and sleepwear as street wear. From silk matching pajama sets to posh midi dresses the main theme of the show were bright colors and flashy florals. Inspired by their boldness, I followed suit. Luckily, Goodwill or for us Canadians, Village Valeur, is always stocked with vintage and secondhand pajamas, like my green silk robe.

With tuition being high and the flow of money being tight, it is necessary to live on a budget as a university student. However, it still is not necessary to sacrifice on style. While it is easier to find cute pieces at full prices, being a bargain style shopper creates a challenge, and encourages me to be more creative and daring with my outfits. Besides there is nothing that beats the thrill of finding a barely used BCBGMAXAZARIA or Betsey Johnson piece among the racks of Goodwill.

Since rocking a matching set of silk pajamas on a normal day out will turn some heads, I opted for a more subtle look with my robe instead. I matched my robe with a light wash pair of skinny jeans and white chunky heels to accentuate my legs against the long robe. For a more comfortable option, jelly platforms can substitute the chunky heels. The lace crop top is my attempt to ignore the fact that winter lasts until late April in Canada. Lastly, I threw on a tie belt to add some edge to the look and to define my waist.

The day has finally come when your jammies are fashionable, revel in their comfort my fellow Fashionistas!
