I always want to rush into the next style season, but the end of summer and beginning of fall is a difficult transition when you go to school in a Southern climate. In the south, wearing all dark colors can be downright dangerous if done too early. I usually have to settle with wearing fall colors as accessories till it hits November and actually cools off. So, this outfit was my attempt to transition into fall and its trends without getting heat stroke.
My outfit is almost entirely from thrift stores–my shirt and skirt were both found at Goodwill. My top is a loose, silk floral number from a popular ’90s brand. The skirt is a trendy button front silhouette reminiscent of the late ‘60s mod and early ‘70s fashion. My backpack purse is from another thrift store that supports the local homeless in my hometown. I purchased the backpack in plain black and then used acrylic craft paint to DIY a splatter paint pattern before adding some cute pom poms to jazz it up. My shoes are a trendy two strap, low heel style that is perfect for long walks through a city paved with cobblestones. To jazz the outfit up, I added a chic and simple pair of dark sunglasses along with some sparkly, statement jewelry.
This outfit incorporates the resurgence and mix of of ‘70s and ‘90s style fashion that is currently in vogue. The top brings in the ‘90s penchant for minimalist shapes while the skirt is definitively ‘70s. The dark glasses add to the modern retro style with their vintage style frames and pitch black lenses. The mini backpack is another trend that goes back to the ‘90s. As a fan of all things retro, I love seeing how some trends get re-imagined again and again each decade. Thanks to all the ‘90s nostalgia, I had an excuse to break out all the chokers I used to wear in elementary and junior high school. I can’t wait to see which decade becomes trendy next.
