If you’re ready for fall fashion, you’ll want to take notes on this layered look. I was inspired by the Calvin Klein fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, which created long lines with modern trench coats and edgy looks with lots of black. Models wore structured tunics in deep autumn hues embellished with huge metal grommets. I loved the mixture of textures in this collection. From suede to patent leather, the variety of textiles is glorious and creates an interesting concept for such a modern minimalist brand. Cross-body bags with chunky chain straps added an extra edgy finishing touch. This runway show took the basic concept of layering to the next level. I took a similar approach to layering my look by starting with some basics and adding my own flair.
By layering my Banana Republic sweater tank top with a silky black button-down, I imitated the “rocker girl” look from the collection. The great thing about layering is that anyone can do it. For fall, start with a basic long sleeve shirt or turtleneck. You could play with warm colors and patterns like plaids and paisley or, if you are inspired by Calvin Klein’s collection like I am, with more of a monochromatic color palette. After you’ve got your base, layer on a comfy cable knit sweater or a tunic for a polished look. Don’t be afraid to accessorize. Add a scarf for a more casual feel or a statement necklace for a night out.
