STYLE GURU STYLE: Elegant Warrior

Dondup, a denim brand, has been trying to branch out into ready-to-wear in order to compete with other brands in the marketplace. Founder and creative director, Manuela Mariotti has high hopes for their resort line. Inspiration came from “strong, intense women…to the Korean archers and their discipline and focus” and are described by Matriotti as “elegant warriors.” This was shown with linear shapes, denim and the masculine meets relaxed vibe.

A somewhat wide variety of color was used in the Dondup resort 2016 line, including black, white, red, blue, army green and gray. I, of course, decided to go with a black and white color scheme for my look. For my shirt I decided on a more conservative black crop top; I chose it because it still looked powerful, yet it had a bit of my own touch to it. I wore a white lace blazer over my top to add linear shape to the outfit.

For the bottoms, I noticed that the majority of the pieces were midi or full length. Most denim used in the line blended with either silk, linen or cashmere to add to part of the relaxed vide. To stay true to that important staple, I wore my black jegging capri pants. For the shoes, I wore nude sandals with studded detailing, copying the outfits in the line by keeping it simple.

No accessories were used in the line but I noticed how the models hair and makeup was done. The hair was slightly wet and slicked back away from the face, but was still down. I am not a fan styling a down-do without a part, so I opted for a slicked back ponytail to give off a similar look. The makeup was minimal, but the eyebrows were very noticeable. I decided to do my makeup as similar as possible, including filling in my eyebrows. Overall the models gave off a strong, independent vibe—almost to a point of androgyny.

Get My Look: 1. A lace blazer. 2. Capri jeggings. 3. Strong eyebrows.
