STYLE GURU STYLE: Fall Back In Style

Maybe it’s because of the seven seasons of Mad Men I’ve recently binge-watched, but lately I’ve been more than a little obsessed with the ’60s. A lot of styles around now are reminiscent of the era and I couldn’t be happier about it. There’s something about colorful, geometric and structured clothing that just calls to me. It feels both modern and retro, which is a look I strive for.

The Dior pre-fall 2015 collection has some ’60s flair that inspired me. Solid chunks of color are broken up with checked sweater dresses, mod turtlenecks and long sleeveless jackets. The collection has a very clean, modern feel mixed in with its ’60s-inspired look. Outfits like this long fur jacket ensemble and feminine dress over a turtleneck create futuristic silhouettes that still have an old school vibe.

I enjoyed including some of Dior’s colors into my look. I started with a mustard sweater, which is a color I look forward to wearing every fall. Even people who don’t like yellow should be able to wear this welcoming shade! I paired it with a checked tweed mini skirt. The short skirt was important in balancing the silhouette with the long navy duster I put over the outfit. I encourage anyone trying to update their fall wardrobe to search for their perfect duster. It’s something I know I’ll enjoy wearing even after the fad fades. Finally, I added a brown leather bag and boots to complete my fall look.

This look is all about using strong shapes and colors to create a RAD fall outfit. Looking back to the ’60s is always a fun way to get inspiration for creating a modern outfit!
