Ah, yes. It is that melancholy time of year when summer is winding down; the magic begins to fade—long, carefree nights and suntanned skin are merely reduced to wistful memories—and the stress of impending tests and insurmountable workloads looms over the horizon. Although that summertime sadness is creeping its ugly head, there still remains a few weeks left of freedom to enjoy. Which brings me here, to Australia, where I fully intend to languish in the home stretch of summer bliss.
Surrounded by Oz’s beautiful shores and charming people, I could not help but adopt an equally captivating yet laid back look. Taking cues from Escada’s 2016 resort collection, I donned a sleeveless, billowing blouse and a pair of medium wash, high-waisted jeans. From effortless power suits to easy, breezy blouse-trouser combos, Escada’s collection creates the image of the multifaceted and confident woman—something that I hoped to emulate with my own look.
The blouse proves airy and fluid for anywhere the day may take me, and its delicate blue pattern creates subtle diversity. The high-waisted jeans give the look a vintage edge, something I love to experiment with when donning more modern pieces such as the blouse. Rolling the pants at the ankle also adds to the lightweight, summery feel of the ensemble, while letting the boots garner attention.
Finally, my look could not be complete without my latest Australian purchase: my black felt hat. Although I am never caught without my trusty sunnies accessible, it is nice to switch things up with a different sort of sun shield. I have spotted countless women here sporting these chic accessories and now understand the attachment. Finding the perfect fit and shape is key: too wide of a brim can be overwhelming and too floppy a brim can mask your face (unless you are attempting to go incognito and this is the look you are going for). Once you find “the one,” own it. I swear, it will even make you stand taller.
Get My Look: 1. A sleeveless blouse. 2. High-waisted jeans. 3. A black felt hat.
