My overall goal in relation to what I wear and how I understand the world of fashion is to never take myself too seriously. I want my clothes to show off my personality, which to be summed up in a single phrase is: the human embodiment of a disco ball. I like to keep things unpredictable and a little over the top while still feeling comfortable with how I am presenting myself. People might think I’m ridiculous in this sense, but I feel there are worse things to be. I’d much rather be ridiculous than dull.
This is an outfit that I would wear on any given day. I’m extremely into turtleneck tops right now, so they’ve become an autumn staple in chilly Scotland. I’m also just a crop top kinda girl, and there’s nothing more practical than a pair of chunky, heeled, low black boots and a black cross-body bag. The coat, however, isn’t something that many people would call a staple. I was heavily made fun for purchasing it by my friend who literally tried to drag me away from it as I walked toward it. However, I think everyone needs things, in addition to the basic items featured in the outfit, that give your outfit pop. Having fun with how you dress is not done by blending in with the crowd—hence the fluffy pink jacket.
In terms of this look, I feel that my new foundation and this lipstick have really changed my makeup routine. My skin feels softer and more buildable for more makeup from the foundation, and this shade of lipstick—a warm brownish pink—seems to be perfect for moving out of the summer makeup shades. Overall, wear what makes you feel good about yourself, don’t be afraid to take risks, and don’t think fashion has to be stuck-up and prissy. Fashion is you being you.
