STYLE GURU STYLE: Feelin' Fringe

Looking through the high school and early college clothes that I’ve finally managed to mentally separate from, it’s clear how much my style has changed over the years. Part of the change came from the constant evolution of trends coming from the runway as well as endless pages of street style inspiration on the web; but, I’d argue that simply growing up has taught me a thing or two about style. One of the most important things I’ve learned for myself is that I’ll probably never fit into just one style genre and that I should stop trying to define my aesthetic. Rather than trying to stick to minimalism, boho or grunge, I prefer to change my looks daily.

My most recent inspiration comes from Rebecca Minkoff’s fall 2015 collection, which reminded me of my long-lasting attraction to bohemian looks. The movement of the clothes and the thrown together feel of the outfits perfectly mirror the personality of the free-spirited, adventurer who would wear these looks. Minkoff threw in the expected elements of bohemian style and managed to modernize a majority of the looks.

There were many elements of the runway show that I wanted to use as inspiration for my outfit, but I chose to wear this burnt orange romper that features the same billowing sleeves seen in Minkoff’s collection and other ’70s-inspired shows. I love how the wide sleeves and loose fit shorts of the romper balance the deep V-neck and that the tassels add another touch of a boho vibe.

While the clothes in Minkoff’s collection were very wearable and well-designed, the accessories and details elevated the looks to create an eye-catching and inspiring runway show. Fringe was featured in many of looks whether on a vest, a pair of boots or an all fringe dress. My short fringe booties don’t have the same free movement as the tall boots in the show, but they allowed me to incorporate this fun trend into my look without over-doing it. I loved the feather necklaces worn by the models so I wanted to add some bohemian jewelry to my outfit. I put on dangling beaded earrings for a bit of my own style and more color. As a final touch I threw on a brown suede hat, another accessory featured in the show.

Get My Look: 1. Rust colored romper. 2. Black fringe booties. 3. Suede hat.
