My favorite way to take chances in my style is to transform unconventional fabrics into basic silhouettes. Examples of this include plastic hybrid T-shirts, suede maxi dresses, leather skirts, organza feathered dresses and my favorite: denim everything. The spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection for Fendi contained all of these innovative looks and more. Fendi is one of those brands that is known for its Italian luxury style. In this collection, they have amped up the energy and youth in their designs. Silvia Venturini Fendi talks about the collection containing a “high velocity” that is taking Fendi into the future. With the collaboration of the all-powerful Karl Lagerfeld, Fendi has taken on a youthful and modern edge.
The “feminine meets masculine” style in Fendi’s collection was something that I wanted to emulate in my look. I loved the cool blues and neutrals that were used; they added a casual sensibility that is perfect for the spring season. The juxtaposition of stiff and flowing fabrics stood out to me as well. My denim dress was inspired by this look in the collection. Denim is making a comeback in fashion and wearing it head to toe cannot be considered tacky, as it once was. I found this dress at a thrift store. Seeing denim as a dress was unusual and enticing for me, so I had to have it. There were so many collars in this collection, which I was certainly not opposed to (I am currently obsessed with them). The white collar with the plain denim added some interest to the top of the outfit. I decided to include an Anthropologie leather cross-body bag, plaid hair bow and polka-dot tights for a feminine touch. Unfortunately, I was cursed with the inability to walk in real heels, so these black heeled booties are perfect for adding some height and casual edge.
The Fendi brand is always evolving and making daring moves. Wearing denim in an unconventional way is one of those moves that are always a good idea.
