Banana Republic’s premier collection hit New York Fashion Week recently, and for their first showing, this brand did a great job. Their fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection was a combination of dressy and casual pieces and I absolutely loved it. My personal style dictates my appreciation for any look involving layers and neutrals and that seems to be a cornerstone of this collection. Long camel coats, slouchy boyfriend jeans, patterned dresses, layered sweaters and the occasional pop of color—this collection hits all the right marks and inspires me to update my personal style.
Trying to emulate the essence of this collection isn’t a problem when wearing my camel coat. This coat is right on-trend for the Banana Republic collection with the plus side of it being a staple in my everyday wardrobe. Its neutral color makes it easy to layer and its long length keeps me warm. Everywhere I go, I am almost undoubtedly cold, and this fact along with my love for mixing and matching garments, strongly influences how I layer garments. Usually I’ll thrown on a button-down and then a cardigan over top, but after looking at this collection, I wanted to try something different. Inspired by some of the looks I decided on my denim button down and my striped sweater. By layering these two together I am playing with fabric, texture and pattern in one look.
My finishing touches: skinny jeans and Dr. Martens. Although this collection featured cropped boyfriend jeans and ankle boots, the lovely Ohio weather stopped me from sporting these items during a snowstorm. The final aspect that I loved about this collection was the coral lip all the models wore. It brightened their complexion and was a great styling option. For my take I muted the color just a bit so it was more of an everyday lip color.
