It was love at first sight. The sight that I am speaking of is Valentino‘s pre-fall 2015 runway show. It was filled with pretty much everything you could imagine. There were celestial-inspired pieces, denim on denim, hearts everywhere, gowns and oversized sweaters; what caught my attention the most were all of the dainty and beautiful floral prints. I’ve always loved floral but I’d usually save my floral pieces for the spring and summer. By making the floral pieces dark, Valentino has inspired me to winterize them.
To mimic the dark back drops for the floral, I went with a black skirt with pops of red and orange flowers. I was flipping through the collection for inspiration for what to pair it with and landed on an oversized sweater. Not only will it keep me super warm in these freezing temperatures, but it’s a nod to the oversized “this could have come out of my grandma’s closet” sweaters seen in the collection. I added booties to amp it up a bit and I wore tights because I’m the type of person who likes to keep warm. Keeping the color scheme of my outfit on the darker side of things helps to make the fun florals even more winter ready.
Aside from the Valentino show inspiring me to embroider cute sayings on sweaters, it also inspired me to put a winter spin on a spring print. The bottom line here is that florals work for all seasons if you keep them dark in the winter and bright and fun in the summer.
