STYLE GURU STYLE: Floral Fever

If you have ever seen The Devil Wears Prada you know the famous quote, “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” While the line was supposed to make fun of the trend, it could not be more true; consistently, year after year, florals have remained a classic spring trend in the fashion industry.

The Oscar de la Renta resort 2016 collection embraced classic floral and gave it a brand new look when the collection went down the runway. I was lucky enough to be given an opportunity to be a dresser for the collection during market week, and I was able to see this collection first hand. I was blown away by the beautiful ensembles and almost all of them featured bright and bold floral patterns. Inspired by the Oscar de la Renta collection, I styled this outfit specifically to resemble look 10 in the collection. This look features a simple white dress embellished with colorful sequins on top and a navy blue floral pattern on bottom.

Finding a dress that was similar to this was almost impossible on my college student budget, so instead I found a kimono that featured many of the colors found in the dress that were also featured across the entire collection. This kimono has a bold floral pattern with intricate crochet at the bottom so by wearing this I was able to capture the feeling without actually wearing the designer look. Because the floral pattern is so bold, I paired it with a very simple navy tank dress so the kimono would remain the focus of the look.  I added simple gold jewelry accented with the colors found in the kimono. Finally to finish off the look I added comfortable yet fun tan gladiator sandals.

Get My Look: 1. Any simple sundress. 2. Add a floral kimono. 3. Gladiator sandals.
