STYLE GURU STYLE: Floral Flush

Inspiration is an 11-letter word with millions of possibilities in the fashion world. Stumbling upon Altuzurra’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection was no coincidence and I immediately knew that Joseph Altuzarra’s show, which was filled with micro-floral prints, divergent color combinations and bohemian designs, was going to be my guide for summer and fall.

His collection fuses structure and fluid fabrics making the end product ethereally effortless. What is most notable about this collection is the major flower power. It does away with the “rule” that floral’s are strictly reserved for the warmer months, and introduces them to a new season, fall.

I am all about transition pieces and now I can look at pieces in my closet with a refreshing point of view. I chose this layered maxi skirt to be the focal point of my outfit. The navy blue skirt is painted with dainty white flowers and embodies the delicateness of Altuzurra’s collection. Next, a basic off-the-shoulder top was what I needed to make sure the focus was driven towards the skirt. For a pop of color, I added a fuchsia lip and topped the look with black retro sunglasses.

Believe it or not, this skirt can be worn in fall with some minor tweaking. Switch the sandals out for a pair of booties, and layer a jacket over the top and finish off with a light scarf to keep warm. Whenever I have a statement piece, I make sure to stick to minimal jewelry in order to not overwhelm the look. Altuzurra has taught me that there is no such thing as fashion boundaries. Flowers may have been his inspiration, but his collection was mine.

Get My Look: 1. A gray off-the-shoulder top. 2. Any floral maxi skirt. 3. Fuchsia lipstick.
