Since the start of the season, it seemed as though platform sandals were everywhere. They’ve graced Y’s Yves Saint Laurent’s runway and covered the pages of NYLON magazine’s April issue; there is no escaping this hot, new spunky trend. From the moment I laid eyes on this shoe style, I immediately wanted a pair and started my search for the perfect platform sandal. Some were silver and reminded me of space shoes; some were simple and leather, a quirky take on your usual summer sandal; and Y’s Yves Saint Laurent’s were dark and gorgeous. It took me a few weeks, but I finally discovered these floral ones waiting for me. They reminded me of my grandmother’s flowered curtains from the ’60s and added a vintage feel to any outfit I paired them with.
The fun colors shown throughout my new shoes were so summery and I decided on a collared pink dress to bring out the bright tones of the floral print. This shape of dress is timeless with the collar and the straight lines. The cotton, chambray material was perfect for any summer day, but a bit too chilly for a brisk evening. I layered my favorite white sweater over it to create a summer look that still brought me some warmth. Since the shoes were the star of the show, I kept the rest of my outfit simple and chose solid printed items and muted jewelry. It was a look that could transition from a warm day to a chilly evening in a second. It is important to have items in your closet that can be so versatile because you never run out of ways to wear the pieces.
To spice up the outfit, I wore a simple layered necklace with a touch of pink to go with the bright dress and my platform floral shoes. A few gold bangles and a bright pink watch finalized the accessorizing and I was out the door. My last ode to the vintage, old days was this straw clutch that reminds me of something that same grandmother with the curtains would have owned 50 years ago. It is so retro and summery—the perfect touch to this outfit. Sometimes, wearing pink and some fun shoes makes me feel so girly and vintage. I absolutely love it.
