Continuous snow and below zero weather–when will Mother Nature give us a break? Longing for a warmer season, I fell in love with the spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection from Sonia Rykiel and its French-spirited nature. Rich blues, whites and reds that make up the French national flag blended smoothly with the blacks and army greens. From shorts and tweed jackets to jumpsuits and fur coats to bikinis and sheer dresses, the versatility of Julie de Libran’s debut set was playful and fresh. The whole collection was effortless and resonated that nonchalant Parisian vibe. The knits, denim, fur and Sonia’s signature stripes spoke to me, telling me to incorporate these looks into my wardrobe as soon as possible.
However, I couldn’t start wearing these warm clothes just yet–not when it’s still winter and ten degrees outside. I had to work around it by sporting a soft fur coat over a vintage knit top with denim and plaid sleeves. The sweater by itself had most of the prominent aspects of the collection minus the fur and her iconic three stripes. I decided to skip the stripes and go with the plaid to truly make the attire my own. I rolled up the sleeves to create an effortless effect, which I continued with a beanie, black cutout boots and DIY ripped black jeans. I wanted the outfit to imitate that Parisian ease and “roll out of bed” look.
This spring 2015 show has left me counting down the days until winter is over. I can’t wait to incorporate these styles more when spring finally arrives. Until then, I will be trying to master the art of insouciance.
