STYLE GURU STYLE: Giving The Cold Shoulder

One simple detail can transform a basic outfit into an ensemble. I love to manipulate my clothes; a tug here, a distressed rip there. Sometimes a little extra detail can go a long way. The off-the-shoulder trend seen in Jenny Packham’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear line does just that. This has to be one of my favorite trends to rock for the summer.

The top is actually an oversized swimsuit cover-up from H&M. I tied it in a knot at my waist to give the impression of an hourglass figure. The nude pink color of the shirt is subtle while the zebra print adds some excitement. I wanted the blouse to be interesting but, not so much that it would clash with the other bold colors I’m sporting. The shirt honestly looked a little funny to me when I wore the collar at its original crewneck shape. Push one side off-the-shoulder and now it’s perfection!

I based the look off of the electric blue midi skirt. Yes, it is made out of leather fabric and this particular day just so happened to be tremendously hot. However, the interior is padded with a soft material that kept me cool. The metallic, teal pumps I chose to compliment the skirt are vintage Jeffrey Campbell. I bought both of these items at a local thrift shop for a steal! I think gold jewelry works well with everything. The chandelier earrings add to the classic look and are extremely cool. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

I tightly curled my hair and pulled it back some to show off my ear bling. My eyeliner was applied with a gentle wing and I used a neutral eyeshadow palette to create a light cut crease. This look reminds me of a ‘40s pin up ad. The trick is to look expensive when you really didn’t spend much at all!

Get My Look: 1. Off-the-shoulder top. 2. Midi skirt. 3. Pointed-toe pumps.
