A change in seasons means a switch from summer’s bright lemon-yellows and lavenders to fall’s mahogany and mustard shades. However, there are some colors stay in season all year round; gold.
Gold can be delicate or glamourous or anything spanning between the two. While in the past number of seasons gold has been transformed into larger-than-life statement pieces, designers have since been downsizing their jewelry to layers of thin rings and skinny cuffs. In 2013 designers Ali Heiss and Stella Simona started up their jewelry brand Amarilo, where they feature minimalistic curved chokers and elegant earrings made of wisps of gold. Heiss and Simona also co-design for the sister label Haati Chai, which has been seen on icons Chanel Iman, Sofia Richie and Anne Hathaway to name a few.
Drawing inspiration from their simplistic designs I made gold accents the central uniting feature of my look. For jewelry I paired a set of gold rings with a wrap bracelet and thick collar. I chose to harness the metal throughout the look by incorporating a handbag with a gold clasp and edging along with gold embroidered velvet booties.
To allow gold to be the main element, I kept the remainder of my outfit relatively simple. I chose to layer an off-white slip over a black mock neck tee. The notoriously unsexy mock neck has recently been revamped by many designers to become more date night chic, as seen across the 2016 runway. Designer Alexander Wang featured the style as a casual cotton embellished tee in his resort 2016 collection while Versace reworked the design into their sportswear-inspired pre-fall 2016 lineup. Ultimately it’s proving to be an emerging style with a wide range of versatility. I can’t wait to fit it into many of my upcoming winter looks.
