Every girl’s inner prepubescent ’90s child seems to be coming out these days, what with all the chokers I see around campus. However, believe it or not you can now find this novelty on the models. I loved the way that the Alexandre Vauthier spring 2015 couture styles incorporated both gothic looks and elaborate chokers into his runway show.
Feeling inspired, I rummaged through my closet (and that of a neighbor’s) to create the perfectly laid-back, ready-to-wear grungy look to show off in class and on the street. I paired a personal staple of mine, a white long-sleeve blouse with subtle embroidery with a cozy flannel to create a more complete, not to mention, warmer look. I matched these with black jeggings and combat boots to keep up the rock star vibe. I attempted to pull a Phoebe with my hair clips, because well, who doesn’t like quirky?
My two personal favorite aspects of this number are the enormous scarf and my lace choker. The scarf was perfect, considering the high for the day was six degrees and it could wrap around me forever. Seriously, it’s huge. The choker was such a find for me as well, because it really brings the outfit to the next level. I go from humming “Wonderwall” to screaming “Smells Like Teen Spirit” just by securing the clasp, if I do say so myself.
All in all, this outfit was really simple to put together, but I believe it made a great statement. Obviously it’s pigeonholed to only appeal to a certain taste, however I think that you really can’t go wrong with layered tops and a statement piece like a choker.
