STYLE GURU STYLE: Hang On To Your Hats

Let me start off by saying I am slightly addicted to wearing only black and gray. Sometimes I’ll even throw in a pop of color, but usually I am only daring enough to try white. I’m not as bold as I probably should be, but wearing black has so many benefits. Black is universal. It will make you appear slimmer and goes with nearly everything. You get the picture right? However, while I was on vacation in New York City, I was feeling extremely bold, or at least what I’d consider bold for myself.

As I was scrolling through Yohji Yamamoto‘s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I was inspired. There were oversized kimonos, draped over more formfitting attire and a plethora of hats! The concept behind Yohji Yamamoto’s collection was to show emotions and sadness. However, it’s summertime and I wanted to spice things up. Any other day, his all-black ensemble would have been a hit in my book.

For my outfit, I decided to go with a long, oversized kimono. From there, I added a pop a pattern by pairing my gray, floral crop top underneath. Even though it was scorching hot outside, the bug spray did not work against NYC bugs. I didn’t want to get eaten alive by the mosquitos, so I paired one of my favorite American Eagle Outfitters jeggings and cuffed them at the bottom. I threw on my comfortable gladiator sandals and grabbed my cross-body messenger bag. I always drool over the gorgeous hats I see in the stores, but since I have big, curly hair, I would walk right past them. Fortunately, I had the guts to straighten my hair, and as a result, I ran and bought this gorgeous wide-brimmed fedora. I’m ready to block out all the sun and sightsee in style!

Get My Look: 1. A wide-brimmed hat. 2. A long kimono. 3. A floral crop top.
