In the midst of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, I’m still looking for inspiration from last year’s fall show because it’s way to cold to be looking at any spring styles just yet. The fall 2014 Céline ready-to-wear show was all about soft fabrics and outerwear — two things that will never go out of style in my opinion. While I have plenty of blazers, structured coats, peacoats, a cocoon coat and a puffer jacket in my artillery, this past year’s oversized outerwear look really made me want to get a comfy drop-shoulder coat.
Luckily for me, I found a chic marled gray coat on sale at Forever 21 right after the holidays that has been my trusty statement coat for the past month. It’s versatile enough to wear to my internship, out to dinner dinner or even to class with the right outfit underneath. The oversized silhouette that this coat creates makes it easy to wear over any ensemble and still leaves you looking pulled together.
My look today was specifically inspired by look 22 of the Céline 2014 ready-to-wear show. The model in this look is rocking a hugely oversized gray coat with an asymmetrical cut. Underneath it, it’s hard to see whether or not she’s wearing anything at all because most of the attention is being drawn to the statement coat. For my look, I tried to keep my outfit simple underneath the coat to have the same effect — but not to the point of bare legs, because after all it is still February! I opted for a solid sweater and dark skinny jeans, leaving the attention on my coat. I can’t wait to see the kinds of outerwear trends that will spring from the fall 2015 ready-to-wear shows after this week!
