Remember in the beginning when I mentioned a scary new start for me? Well, I have officially settled into my new home, Kent State University. I know making the jump to a new place far away from home is a big step but I promise you, you can make it feel like home. That’s what I did.
Being a freshmen on campus without a car can really suck when you’re a fashion major; I mean how will you get to the mall?? Well, you don’t have to go too far to find an amazing place to shop. Escape the dorm and take a step into your campus’ downtown. There may be many places to eat that are not just chicken tenders and fries and there are lots of boutiques. I found a hidden jewel; it was a little boutique called “Fig Leaf.” Something about personal owned shops is special. Look at it from a merchandising aspect; the owner has to personally pick out the merchandise, so not only will you be getting unique personal style clothing picks, but you will also get some of the most on trend fashions. I needed to pick up some things for the upcoming fall season and this was the perfect spot. I got this super soft and cozy V-neck crossed long sleeve blouse. Not only is it easy to move around in, but you can wear it tons of different ways. In these pictures I dressed it up as a transition into the fall weather with an elegant lace and leather bodycon skirt, booties and my absolute fave fall accessory, knee high socks. Now, this shirt can be dressed to the tens, but you can also throw it on with a pair of jeans, layer a flannel over top and tie it together with a pair of riding boots and you’ll score the perfect casual outfit to strut around campus in the autumn.
Being away from home for the very first time can be one of the toughest times you can go through as you are growing up, but finding that special place on campus can help the transition immensely, whether it be the lounge in your dorm, the dining hall, a tiny café or, in my case, a local boutique. I hope you all can find that place and also find an amazing shop to cover all of your shopaholic needs.
