STYLE GURU STYLE: I'll Never Go Out Of Style On You

The runway trend that inspired me this week is the classic Alexander McQueen’s old Victorian style with a nipped-waist, flared skirt and ’40s silhouette. I fell in love with the themes of romance, beauty, positivity and flowers blooming depicted in McQueen’s resort 2016 fashion show. This idealistic dream is also pictured through the planted garden of prints and patterns based on sweet pea, lily of the valley, begonia and hollyhock. The disheveled lace pieces also reflect this dream as they are meant to appear as treasures found in an old chest, worn and adored. I especially admire the burst of optimism (and blossomed flowers!) after last season’s darkness. Who was the mastermind behind all of this? We have Sarah Burton, the resort’s creative director, to appreciate.

I translated this vintage, floral and lace runway trend into my own look—a black lace bustier top meets a tropical green and velvet floral skirt. My crop top, which looks like a modernized version of a corset, goes well with the skirt I’ve worn and loved for years. My black Nine West heels are also a treasured item of mine. To share Burton’s feelings right now for “anti-fast fashion,” something more permanent rather than seasonal, I believe that lace and florals will never go out of style, as they both have an antiquated and modern appeal. My few jewelry pieces are are made of gold, white gold or titanium, as they are hypoallergenic for my sensitive skin and long lasting.

Just like last season’s fashion trend, my darker days are through. Can you think back to a time when you lacked confidence, happiness, passion, spirituality and love? How about a time when you felt your life turn into a garden, with flowers of joy, optimism and positivity bursting into life? My growth in all of these happened after reconnecting myself with God. I wish for you all to discover a garden of happiness with flowers blooming. I challenge you to listen to your call for adventure. To grow, you need to step out of your comfort zone. Whether it’s trying out for a dance team, raising your hand in class or being more kind and loving—after accepting the challenge and conquering your fear, you’ll feel yourself transform. After all, as Joseph Campbell’s saying goes: “The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.”

Lastly, if you like this girly, fun and adventurous outfit, I recommend wearing it to a summer festival. Enjoy!
