STYLE GURU STYLE: In ‘Mod'eration

One of my favorite pre-fall shows this year was the Tory Burch show. Her take on the mod style mixed with bohemian vibes was true to her signature aesthetic. Being that the mod style is one of my favorites, I didn’t want to take my eyes off her collection filled with turtlenecks, miniskirts and peacoats. The various designs and textures allowed Tory Burch to take the style and incorporate it into her own. Tory Burch truly showed that she could take the old and really make it new.

Today I decided to execute this new take on mod. Since the colors in the collection were fairly neutral, I decided to pair a simple black turtleneck with high-waisted tan shorts. The suede shorts contrasted the cotton top, which was a trend seen regularly in the collection as well. I then added a pair of black booties. Booties were seen many times during the collection and are very common in mod styles. The booties were also a complement to the black turtleneck. For accessories, I added a brown Tory Burch handbag and a gold watch to continue the neutral palette. The leather on the bag was another contrasting texture to the rest of the outfit, which gave it further dimension.

This show showed me how to take the mod style and make it my own. The result: simple, classic and chic. Whether you are bohemian, grunge or preppy, you can always incorporate some mod into your look. I will definitely be bringing this ‘60s trend back more often!
