With my undying love for black and white, Rachel Zoe’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection captured my heart the moment it popped up on my news feed. With some of the pieces evoking a ’60s mod-inspired vibe, I took a wardrobe staple from my closet and channeled Zoe’s aesthetic.
I’ll let you in on a little secret; wearing a dress typically takes half the time it does to throw pants and a matching top together. All you need is black tights and you’re golden. Living on a huge campus, I’m aware that black wedges aren’t suitable for a full day of class, meetings and study sessions at the library, so swap them out for a pair of black flats or boots.
Secretly searching for any reason to draw on even larger cat eyes than usual and copycat Twiggy’s iconic dark eyes, I seized the opportunity with this dress’s simple silhouette. To highlight the dramatic makeup, I slicked my hair back into a clean ponytail and swept my bangs back along with it, providing little distraction and a uniform sharpness.
With heavy makeup and such a nicely tailored, patterned dress, jewelry was unnecessary. But if you’re feeling a little bare with nothing at all, add a simple pair of round black earrings. While the lashes may be a bit dramatic for everyday, the rest of the look can be worn in a business setting or even for class. The silhouette is tailored with clean lines, and has a nice fit without exposing every curve of the body. On a college budget, be smart with winter shopping and choose classic staples and silhouettes that can be used year after year and transformed into multiple aesthetics for multiple occasions. From there the options are endless.
Get My Look: 1. Dramatic false lashes. 2. A houndstooth dress. 3. Black booties.
