STYLE GURU STYLE: It Don't Matter If It's Black or White

No matter the season, the weather or the wearer, the companionship of black and white is always appropriate. Classic, simple, sophisticated and effortlessly chic; a black and white color palette can communicate so many things while remaining visually neat and modest. Though the classic color combination doesn’t boast the usual bright and playful vibes of spring and summer fashion, the understated black and white canvas allows room for the Fashionista/o to accessorize and personalize their look. I was inspired by alice + olivia’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Black and white: does it every really go out of style?

I am the first girl to run into the pastel and floral sections of Forever 21, but black and white is a trend that I am happily willing to explore and experiment with. Like most young women of our generation, I can always count on black as a color that will make me feel fantastic. This is probably the reason I am so open to the black and white trend. I like to keep things simple and comfortable, but I always want to look put-together. I can sport my classic black, and allow its complement to upgrade the look without going overboard.

I chose to pair a black vintage crop top with some knit joggers from H&M to start off my look. I threw on my tribal print kimono, complete with fringe detail and two different prints throughout. Since the kimono featured multiple patterns and careful details, I stuck to mostly black for the remainder of my ensemble. To finish off the look, I added my black and white strapped sandals from Old Navy, which really stitched everything together. Lastly, I accessorized with black drop pearl earrings, which I had quite successfully stolen from my mother’s jewelry box. When it comes to fashion, mother definitely does know best.

Get My Look: 1. Find a versatile black pant. 2. A killer kimono. 3. Some strappy summer sandals.
