STYLE GURU STYLE: It Takes Two

In preparation for my upcoming vacation to South Carolina, I decided it was finally time I spend some of my hard earned money and shop for new resort wear. I was in the market for something fresh, breathable, yet stylish that wouldn’t be constrictive in the oppressive summer heat. When it comes to picking out clothes, I am definitely one who likes to shop where the deals are and try (but not prevail) to stay within a budget. Usually I am a huge online shopper, but I decided to test my luck and venture into the mall. The first store and only store that I ended up finding success in was Forever 21. If you haven’t been to Forever 21 in a while, I definitely recommend making the trip. In a new section, F21 Contemporary, I was to find well-made, funky, minimalist and trendy clothing.

One particular piece of clothing (or should I say pieces) on my summer shopping list was matching separates. The two-piece phenomenon has taken over the fashion runways as well as the red carpet, and I needed to be apart of it. The best thing about style is that there is no effort needed in trying to coordinate an outfit! You have a perfectly matching top and bottom ready to be accessorized.

As soon as I entered the contemporary section of the store, my eyes locked on the perfect blouse and culottes set. The mandala print featured on the top and bottom instantly reminded me of a look I had seen on the Mara Hoffman spring 2015 ready-to-wear runway show. The outfit on the runway was very desert island-chic with a relaxed feel to it. It was everything I wanted and more. The top is a box cut short-sleeved crop top made from a crepe fabric. The colors in the print are black, peach and cream, making it a versatile staple piece for my closet. The culottes are made from the same crepe fabric and feature an elasticized waistband and a flowy wide leg silhouette. The complete set is truly bohemian-inspired, giving one effortless style with serious comfort. My shoes, like the ones featured on the runway, are a classic pair of pointed faux leather loafers in egret white. I love how they add a ’70s flair to the gypsy vibe of the matching separates, while being super comfortable as well. I also found this magnificent pair of shoes at Forever 21. To accessorize, I chose a mixture of gold and silver bracelets, rings and earrings. The ensemble is complete with my simple teardrop necklace to add subtle beauty against the busy pattern.

It is truly a wonderful thing when you do not have to stand in front of your closet for fifteen minutes attempting to put together the perfect outfit. The concept of a matching set is brilliant in making life and style that much easier to achieve. Perfect for every occasion, one is guaranteed to receive numerous compliments for such an easy look. The trend of matching separates is hot, hot, hot! My advice: get it while you can. Fall in love with your look as I have with mine. Whether you’re a high roller or living on a budget, there are so many stores that will give you success in staying on trend with matching separates. Happy shopping!
