It is no surprise that when looking at runway looks I chose J.Crew. J.Crew is easily my favorite place to shop and I am addicted to their online site (as well as their factory store.) What I noticed in their spring 2016 collection is the mixing and matching of colors and patterns. There are all sorts of pattern plays from stripes on stripes to polka dots on plaid. Vogue.com describes the spring line as, “Going back to its roots,” which means nautical stripes, gingham and lots of print-on-print combinations.
Throughout the years J.Crew has been a staple for “preppies” everywhere. Their classic pieces have remained in closets for decades; I know many people that have vintage J.Crew staples in their wardrobes. Even a plaid shirt or two of mine is seven or eight years old, and I keep wearing them because they don’t go out of style. Ever! If you can find a quality sweater or a plaid flannel at J.Crew today, hang onto it because it’ll stand the test of time (and seasons). This season’s pattern play trend is just the newest spin on the classic preppy prints.
My take on this trend from J.Crew is just that. I have done a polka dot, plaid and stripe combo but I have made it a bit more seasonal. Since January is just beginning and we won’t be wearing pastels for a few months, I chose greens, browns and blacks to make this look winter ready. I have always loved patterns but mixing them together is not something I am accustomed to. Needless to say, it took a while for me to get this look down. But I suggest you do the same because the look is worth it and it can be fun! It’s like playing dress up all over again, and who doesn’t love that? But if you need some extra guidance, shop my look with the links below. What are you waiting for? Go play dress up with your pattern pieces!
