What do Taylor Swift and Jean Paul Gaultier have in common? Well, besides the fact that they both inspired my look today, they are also both style icons with bold senses of style while still keeping the classic looks in their back pockets.
When I was perusing through the couture shows, the first thing I noticed was that, while the looks were stunning, nothing was actually wearable. No surprise right? That is why they are couture. But when I came across Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring 2015 couture show I was pleasantly surprised to see baseball caps mixed with couture looks. Yep, that’s what I said: baseball caps. Gaultier mixed street style with wedding couture and created a visually rich runway show that was drastically different than the other couture shows that season. This look, in particular, inspired me to turn a couture look into something that was actually wearable.
I started with a black baseball cap, as did Gaultier. I continued the look with a white crop top with a ruffle detail and paired it with black high-waisted jeans with knee rips. To finish off the look, I wore black, weaved slip-on sneakers. Once I got this far with the look, I couldn’t help but think of the similarity to many of Taylor Swift’s looks. Taylor is always wearing classic colors like black and white, especially in the same silhouettes as my look. So, I decided to keep going with the balance of Taylor and Jean by adding bright red lipstick and red nail polish.
This look is the ultimate mix of sporty, feminine and classic. The details of the baseball cap and slip-on sneakers create a casual feel that counterbalances perfectly with the Taylor-inspired makeup. When you mix the styles of a runway genius and a mega pop star style icon, frankly my dear, you can’t go wrong.
