One trend that I have always duly admired and hated was “jean on jean.” I feel as though the trend can either look extremely classy or trashy. However, after looking at Gucci’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear line, I decided to attempt the look, and I’m pleased to say that I’m happy with the outcome. This Gucci collection was a throwback to the early ’70s with silk kimonos, shaggy furs, tie-dye sweaters and all-denim looks.
This look, presented in the collection, features a military-esque denim jacket and relaxed boyfriend jeans accented by mahogany accessories. I chose to imitate this look in a very similar way with slight differences to reflect my own personal style. Instead of a denim military jacket, I chose to wear my favorite jewel encrusted chambray shirt from LOFT. The gems add a little flair to an otherwise monochromatic outfit. Plus, the chambray shirt is lighter and more comfortable than a denim jacket, which was perfect for this spring day. I kept the boyfriend jean idea the same, but mine were ripped and slouchy, which made them a bit more casual. For shoes, I wore a pair of closed toe sandals. These sandals have a slight heel that is perfect for looking fashionable while still being comfortable enough to walk around campus. I also continued the wood-colored accessories trend with my sunglasses and belt.
In the end, this experiment with a trend that I was skeptical of ended up being a success. I felt comfortable in my all-denim ensemble, and now I want to see how I can mix and match the other denim pieces in my closet. Although this trend may be difficult to master each time, through trial and error and one destroyed closet an hour later, it proves to be one that can be done if you take the time!
