STYLE GURU STYLE: Kaleidoscopic '90s

The ‘90s are over, but thanks to re-runs of Family Matters and the fashion gods, wearing your high-waisted shorts super high is completely acceptable; in fact, it’s a fashion statement, which makes it only right that I inspired my look from Mara Hoffman’s resort 2016 collection. This show grabbed my attention with its free flowing dresses and wide-cut shorts, a perfect fit for anyone with a character of free spirit.

The designer, Mara Hoffman, who is famous for her vibrant and kaleidoscopic prints, decided that in this collection, she wanted to expand on the cut of her textiles, leaning away from bright, electric prints and more toward soft and creamier colors with a slight pop of distinction seen in several of her pieces this season. It makes me grateful that all things oversized are finally being praised in 2015. At least one style from this collection needs to be in every Fashionista’s closet. Every Fashionista that ever watched I Love The ‘90s and cried to their mom about not being born earlier to have enjoyed the wonderful years, look at this collection and all that will be made up for. It’s Martin meets The Hills: “What a time to be alive,” I say to my seventh grade self.

I imitated my outfit from look 10, starting with a pair of blue hued sunglasses, and instead of a bustier, I went for my low-cut sports bra, which comes in handy inside and outside of the gym. Head to toe, I stuck to Hoffman’s latest collection for the body of my outfit, but I went more for her traditional look when I chose my details, such as the Arabian-influenced print my shorts. I mobilized my look with black platform sandals, held together by classic straps over the toes and around the ankle. To add an edge, I made a stop at my favorite nail salon and asked for the coffin nail acrylics coated in a summery plum nail polish by Essie.

Get My Look: 1. Sunglasses. 2. Sports bra. 3. High-waisted shorts.
