I want to be like Kanye and who wouldn’t after seeing his first fashion show for the Yeezy fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. For the past decade, Kanye West has been an inspiration to us all through his rap lyrics and spotlight in the music industry, but he’s managed to entice us even more by becoming a designer.
His Yeezy collection is a combination of a neutral color scheme with an edgy, military twist. West’s fashion is a minimalist’s dream with its simple use of browns, blacks, greens and taupes. What I love about this collection is that he chose to step outside of the box with his flesh-colored tights, military-inspired bomber jackets, ripped shirts and distressed combat boots all while appealing to a more subdued, natural and simple audience. With the variety of neutrals seen throughout the show, he chose to showcase his fashion on an ethnically diverse group of models which attracted a large range of people.
Not going to lie, when I first saw Kanye West’s collection, I was a little skeptical as to how it would pan out. I didn’t think it was going to get that much attention or attract people that much because of how simple it was. However, after reviewing the fashion show again, I realized why people loved it and I found it to be genius. His clothing line is easy to replicate due to the toned down color palette and non-complex designs, most of which can be found in everyone’s closet.
I chose to put my own twist on the Yeezy collection by wearing army green jeans and and a gray high-low sweater with a sheer back. Keeping with the color scheme, I added a pair of black booties and a black snakeskin tote to bring a little edginess to my ensemble. To finish off my look I wore a black, white and gray layered necklace to add a little shine to my outfit. I loved getting inspiration from an artist that uses simple designs to create a one-of-a-kind ready to wear collection.
