The best way to combat the heat this summer is to bare it all with a trend that I have been more than happy to welcome into my wardrobe: the crop top. The perfect crop with a high-waisted skirt is my ideal outfit this season.
Diane von Furstenberg’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection inspired me to take the crop trend and put my personal spin on it. Furstenberg had many crop tops and little bra tops that she paired with short or midi skirts in matching patterns and colors. These fun matching sets bring back images of ‘60s fashions and the mod crowd. Other designers showed crop tops on their models as well, and they are now being seen everywhere and in a large variety of styles.
My spin on this fun fashion involved taking classic elements and fitting them into the trend. Stripes are a summer wardrobe must-have, and this crop features directional stripes with an overlapping hem and a small cutout at the back. I paired it with a high-waisted pleated skort in a beautiful pastel blue and simple black ankle strap heels. To bring a bit of life to the ensemble I added a purple bag.
The crop top can be worn in a variety of ways and now has a plethora of styles for us to choose from. Whether it’s a classic straight crop in white, a ribbed sweater bra top, an off-the-shoulder boho crop or a lace up crop in velvet, our biggest problem will be deciding which ones not to buy.
Pairing these with a skirt or skort gives the look a fun summery feel with a splash of femininity, and what more could you really want?
