The fashion show that I developed my outfit from is Neil Barrett’s pre-fall 2016 collection. Neil Barrett took one color and made an entire line that was both dark and bold. He took the color black and transformed it into so many unique pieces. While the collection did have some pieces with accent colors, monochrome black outfits were definitely dominant on the runway, which I used as my inspiration when creating my own chic look.
By taking the collection’s main color, black, I was able to create my own monochromatic look, inspired by the runway. I have already been going through what some might call a phase of wearing only dark clothing and makeup, so taking these looks and making it my own was not a difficult task.
Starting from the top, I opted for a black fedora with white pinstripes. I paired my hat with a black ribbed cold-shoulder turtleneck top with gold stud embellishment and wore a pair of high-waisted, super skinny jeans. Lastly, on my feet, I wore black round-toe, platform pumps. I added a few gold accessories, including a watch and a pair of earrings, to add a pop of color to my outfit and complete my look.
My look, inspired by the runway, also reminds me of one of my favorite quotes: “women who wear black live colorful lives.” This quote by Neiman Marcus reflects not only my all-black outfit, but also my outlook on life.
Get My Look: 1. A black ribbed cold-shoulder mock neck top. 2. A pair of high-waisted super skinny jeans. 3. A pair of black round-toe platform pumps. 4. A fedora or floppy hat.
