STYLE GURU STYLE: Keeping Kimonos Kool

One of my favorite things about fashion is you can dress however you want! Sometimes, that’s kind of difficult to do in the summer especially with all the humidity and scorching heat. As soon as I step foot outside, I’m ready to run back in to the AC and call it a day. But not anymore! Using inspiration from Alexander McQueen’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear and Stella McCartney’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear, I was able to to create this fashionable, refreshing outfit!

One of Alexander McQueen’s styles is taken from Asian motifs, using kimonos in his runway shows. Kimonos come from the Japanese culture dated back to the Nara period 710-794. Kimonos were just a piece of fabric cut straight down the middle to wear during any season. Back then, colors were determined by social class, samarai uniforms or the seasonal colors. After being designed for samurai warriors, kimonos grew into an art, became more valuable and were passed down throughout generations. The kimono I am wearing is an example of seasonal colors. Summer is all about bright pinks, oranges and yellows which is why I chose this style. My kimono is very sheer and light so it’s perfect to spice up any casual outfit without getting too hot!

In Stella McCartney’s spring collection, many of the fabrics used are very loose fitting. Most of the colors used are business type like nudes, dark blues and grays and sometimes a surprise of color. Inspired by this runway, I chose a loose green romper to go with my kimono. Rompers are always perfect for summer. Then to finish off my outfit, I chose tie-up nude heels to keep the outfit together but also classy.

Get My Look: 1. Floral kimono. 2. Emerald green romper. 3. Nude tie-up heels.
