STYLE GURU STYLE: Kick It

Now that spring semester is well underway, I find myself constantly running out of time in the mornings. As a result, I have to resort to throwing on whatever clothing I can find rather than wearing a variety of outfits throughout the week. I’m sure many of you can relate, as we all have so many commitments and responsibilities as college students. This outfit is my way of styling a look in a quick yet eye-catching way.

I never thought I would see the day where I wore something other than straight leg pants, but I have been absolutely obsessed with the kick flare trend recently. The silhouette brings a fun element to any outfit yet takes almost no additional time or thought–a busy Fashionista’s dream! I picked up this pair of stretchy black kick flare pants a few months ago in London, and I reach for them so frequently that I almost can’t remember what my wardrobe was like without them.

The cropped style of these kick flares usually pairs best with ankle booties or high-top sneakers, but this time I wanted to play up that extra short length and opt for these low Adidas Superstars. This left just enough room for my fishnets stockings to peek through, adding a bit of pattern to the look.

Faux shearling moto-style jackets have been everywhere this winter, and I’m certainly not complaining. I especially love the oversized fit of this all black one, as it resembles silhouettes mastered by brands like Acne and MISBHV. It also pairs nicely with this small black backpack, a staple piece that would go well with everyone’s closet.

Although this outfit features mostly black articles of clothing, I have actually been incorporating more color into my daily looks, particularly red. This vintage DKNY sweater is one of my most recent thrift finds, and I love it for its brilliant color and mock-neck shape. To finish off this outfit, I clipped in some colored barrettes to give off a cutesy ’90s vibe (and to hold my baby hairs back).

Altogether, the elements of this outfit create a put-together look. However, it was incredibly simple to create as it only consists of a few pieces, making it perfect for the person who always seems to be running late!
