If you’ve opened your Instagram in the past month, you’ll know that the lace-up trend is everywhere. From dresses to bodysuits, laces are no longer restricted to your sneakers. Of course, since I see countless pictures scrolling through my feed at all hours of the day (I might be addicted to my phone), it’s only natural that I started online shopping for the clothes that everyone seems to have.
Lace-up clothes have not only taken over my social media, but the runway as well. Gucci’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection flawlessly incorporates the trend into several of their looks. Taking something as classic as the deep plunging neckline and lacing it up takes it from night to day without drawing attention to the wrong places.
Though I am notorious for losing my self-control when it comes to online shopping, Gucci just wasn’t in my budget, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.
Lately, I have been all about the graphic T-shirts and I hardly ever stray away from my favorite Guess jeans and Brandy Melville sweater. Starting with my favorites as a base, I brought the runway to a T-shirt and created this look.
Because the color and graphic of the shirt are pretty overwhelming, I kept the look simple with some dark wash jeans, a cream cardigan and black slip-on sneakers. If given the choice to pick between casual and formal, I will almost always choose casual, but I have yet to see a lace-up top that doesn’t look good with skinny jeans.
Spoiler alert: if you’re looking for this exact shirt, I made it myself!
Get My Look: 1. Lace up top. 2. Neutral cardigan. 3. Chic sneaks.
