Reporting live from Maison Valentino to the streets of New York City, I am absolutely obsessed with this embroidered dress from Valentino’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection! The crochet cutouts and lace details sewn onto the deep navy blue fabric totally caught my eye. Overall, the sophisticated silhouettes, intricate patterns and rich color mixtures of this collection surely made a lasting impression. Every once in a while, I have to refer back to it for some strong fashion inspiration.
If you’re not a celebrity, you may find runway looks a bit intimidating. This is because they are not only expensive, but also difficult to incorporate into your everyday style. You may not be able to rock an exact runway look, but you can wear clothes that are reminiscent of it through their texture, pattern and color combination. This summer, I am trying to translate Valentino’s fine aesthetic into my wardrobe. The outfit featured here is the first of my recreations. The lacy fabric and floral pattern of the dress add a feminine touch that is consistent with the designer’s style. The dispersed cutouts introduce a new, artful dimension to it while making the dress fun, dainty and a bit edgy. The overall length and the short sleeves keep it breezy and ideal for warm weather.
I wouldn’t be staying true to myself if I didn’t bring my own twist to this outfit. The floppy hat adds a dash of elegance and instantly enhances it. I decided to layer the necklaces because I think that gives off a more sophisticated feel. My thong sandals perfectly balance out the look and their brown color pairs well with the blue of the dress to produce an earthy effect.
Interestingly enough, I bought this dress at a thrift shop. There you can find all sorts of unique, high-fashion clothing pieces that could have come straight off the runway. The best part is that these clothes are more applicable to day-to-day style. So, if you’re ever tempted to recreate a runway look, I suggest you check out a few boutiques that sell secondhand clothing. When I saw this dress, I knew I had to get it because it could let me pass for a Valentino girl.
