Anyone who knows me knows I always have a vintage twist to my look. It may be my periodical historical drama exposure through Downton Abbey, or Austenian literature but the longing for another time, another world is always present in my mind and wardrobe. That is why even a trend as current as the tank top over a long sleeve shirt gets its own antique facelift.
The tank top over a shirt combo is a trend many fashion it-girls have graced on the curbside catwalk (a term I’m officially coining for street style) of New York Fashion Week (think Kendall Jenner and Rihanna). It’s such an effortless yet genius ‘90s trend that has been modernized for the 21st century Fashionista’s closet. What about for the 21st century Fashionista’s closet who has a vintage soul? The answer is simple: details, details, details! Rather than going for a plain T-shirt under my tank, I opted for a flowy-sleeved white lace top reminiscent of Victorian times. The tank also has an air of romance with its black silk finished off by scalloped detailing on the edges.
To update the look for current times, I wore black skinny jeans on the bottom, but revived the vintage vibe with classic pumps. These nude coach ones are gorgeous with their black dipped tips and gold labeling. I could see myself going to a ‘50s swing dancing party in these low heeled beauties!
You can find me wearing this combination non-stop around Pepperdine and during the Christmas season. Remember: any trend can be adapted to your style and become a foundation for your own trendsetting!
