One of my favorite things about stepping into fall is being able to mix and match lighter pieces with heavier ones. I love being able to pair knee-high socks with a mini skirt or a short dress with a long trench. I think that playing with lengths is a great way to add a little flair to otherwise classic pieces.
For this reason, I was immediately intrigued by Valentino’s pre-fall 2015Â collection. One of the things that I loved most about this collection was how Valentino played around with varying lengths and layers throughout each look. From short dresses with long boots to long hemlines with ankle boots, almost every different length combination is explored in this collection. The various lengths force the eye to wander and glance over each different aspect of the look.
To incorporate Valentino’s concept to a more day-to-day outfit, I made a few changes. Personally, I tend to stray away from bright colors, so I started by swapping out the bright colors and lively prints in Valentino’s outfits for mostly neutrals. Secondly, to off-set the busyness of the different lengths, I kept most of my outfit classic: black circle skirt, plain tights and black and white striped top. In order to implement the varying lengths in a easily wearable look, I paired the circle skirt with black suede knee-high boots. To complement with the beginning of the fall season, I added a longer utility jacket to play with the matching length of the skirt. Finally, to top the look off, I added a cranberry infinity scarf and quilted cross-body bag.
Get My Look: 1. Black over-the-knee boots. 2. Black quilted bag. 3. Utility jacket.
