With the temperatures quickly dropping and the leaves finally gone, it’s that time of year to start transitioning our wardrobes from fall to winter. Cozy sweaters, chunky blanket scarves and knit socks with boots are officially back in our closets for the season. I, however, am very reluctant to let go of my fall fashions, particularly my leather jacket—my favorite staple piece that’s unfortunately not heavy enough to brave the Northeastern winters. In trying to get the most out of my favorite jacket for the season, this fall-winter combo look was born.
In the fall, I’ll typically layer my beloved tan leather jacket from Forever 21 over a tank top or short sleeve shirt in accordance with the weather. For this look, I followed my go-to layering with a cowl-neck tank top. Made of a knit fabric, this burgundy steal from the clearance rack at Macy’s (purchased on Black Friday, making it even more of a deal) is the perfect transition into winter. It keeps me warm and adds a touch of a holiday color to my look.
I decided to go for a darker denim to contrast against my light jacket and booties, and I also wanted to incorporate another winter color into the look. Because of the detail with the cowl-neck, I opted for minimal jewelry with this look and just wore some stud earrings. To pull the outfit together and add another statement element, I wore my favorite heeled booties that I got on sale last year on, again, Black Friday.
By taking your favorite fall staples and blending them with winter pieces, you can lengthen the life of your fall items for the season and still remain warm while running around in the colder weather. To make this look even more winter-appropriate, simply layer a chunky sweater under the jacket or add a cute beanie!
