STYLE GURU STYLE: Let's Not Waist The Moment

I have always wondered as to when you stop following the no white after Labor Day rule. Aren’t all days technically after Labor Day? Or do you start afresh on January first? Either way, I decided to go full out with it and try an all-white ensemble after seeing kate spade new york’s spring/summer ready-to-wear collection for the 2015 season. This collection is adorable from the garden themed purses to the vintage A-line skirts. kate spade does not try to overdo any of the looks and relies on the classic silhouettes and prints the brand is known for. Personally, I believe kate spade has an old school style with a modern and young twist. The simplistic nature of the collection paired with the unique detailing in the prints, such as the cartoon flowers on top of the stripes and interesting accessory choices, make the clothing accessible and trendy. Charming bags in the form of sea creatures or gardening tools add style and humor to the outfits. Overall, the collection is fun and simple while also being tasteful and stylish enough for a garden party.

I absolutely adore kate spade new york, and after viewing the latest collection, I decided to try out the monochromatic look featured throughout the selections. I noticed that some of the tops paired with the skirts were collared, and I wanted to incorporate that into the outfit. However, I am not a fan of collars and wide short sleeves, so I took a button-down and tucked it into the full skirt. The high-waisted element added to the classic silhouette and also defined my figure. I paid homage to the florals and garden theme by choosing a skirt with a floral overlay just subtle enough to be noticed but not be the entire focus.

The tiny bag was also a nod to the cutesy bags used in the original collection. Adding a simple strappy open-toed wedge created a casual feel that would be easy to wear downtown or to an internship. My hair was let down loose, and I kept makeup natural to offset any formal vibes.

I love the tiny waist and full skirt image of the ’50s, and this kate spade new york collection finally let me play around and mesh it with modern fashion. Here’s to wearing more of this style in the future!

Get My Look: 1. A collared shirt in any color. 2. A matching full A-line skirt. 3.A whimsical purse!
