STYLE GURU STYLE: Little Bit o' Lace

BCBGMAXAZRIA has been the light at the end of the tunnel for every occasion I can think of. From school dances to parties in the city, I’ve relied on their clean lines and silky fabrics to make me feel on top of my game. The resort 2016 show is the epitome of how I like to dress, with lace dresses and skirts paired with lots of leather and not-so-sugary accessories. In the summer it’s fun to mix light fabrics with darker colors, especially when it’s cooler out and layers are needed.

Just like the models in the fashion show wearing BCBGMAXAZRIA dresses and either a black sweater or motorcycle jacket, I’ve incorporated a mix of fabrics into my look. I started with a Free People tunic that I have in a wide variety of colors because it’s so airy and easy to wear, and added my favorite chunky black sweater that has pockets on the sides. With my HUE leggings that are made of a thicker, more pant-like material I’m comfortable but still look sharp instead of sloppy. That’s the fun of layering with soft layers if they look more constructed—you’re not in a stiff forced outfit but instead, are able to move and relax in it. The BCBGMAXAZRIA line is for resort wear, which has that vacation vibe that makes you want to kick back on the beach or go to dinner at a cool al-fresco restaurant. With my flowy tunic and sneak peak of lace from my bralette, I’m incorporating their breezy look into my everyday outfit for a bit of the beach wherever I go.

Usually I would wear one of my many pairs of leather boots with an outfit like this, however I recently purchased Vans and am obsessed with how cool and active I can stay in them. They still add a touch of edge, without having to be as hot and clunky to wear. Anyway you style it, a shoe with leather or lace adds an element of rough and tumble without taking away the relaxed nature of the outfit.
