STYLE GURU STYLE: Little Black Dress

As I looked through Givenchy’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection I was reinforced with information I always knew—little black dresses never go out of style. Plunging necklines, lacy hems, off-the-shoulder and corset bodices were only a few variations I saw to the iconic trend. I was thrilled the moment I saw models walking down the runway, and knew right then and there you can never have too many “simple” black dresses.

What I love most about this spring collection is the dark color palette. Filled with blacks, grays, whites and browns, my heart is aesthetically pleased. Now, I don’t like to call myself “boring,” but personally, I’d rather be wearing an all-black ensemble than a bright and bold outfit. I guess you could say I’m simple. In order to recreate this look, I didn’t have to stray very far, neither from my closet nor my personal style. Just because it’s springtime doesn’t mean I have to sacrifice my favorite dark colors!

Perhaps one of my favorite pieces in my closet is my black swing tank top dress. Effortlessly flowing and flattering, I feel (almost) just like one of the Givenchy models! One of my favorite things about this dress is that it is light enough to be worn in summer, but throw on tights, a scarf and a leather jacket and you’re winter ready!

Because Mother Nature just doesn’t want to grace Temple’s campus with the warmest of weather, I threw on another one of my favorite pieces–a gray, white and black printed cardigan. I felt this piece was very appropriate because it incorporated the exact color scheme of Givenchy’s collection as well as debuting my own personal style. As for my shoes, I drew inspiration from the collection and their strappy sandals. My favorite white wedges give me height as well as a pop of “color” and contrast compared to my black dress.

Get My Look: 1. Little black dress. 2. Printed cardigan. 3. Strappy wedges.
