February can be a confusing month, especially if you live in Arizona like me. One minute it is freezing outside, so you throw on your favorite coat and boots. Then, the next hour you’re burning up because the temperature rose 20 degrees in the blink of an eye. To put it lightly, the struggle is real. Luckily, one of my favorite designers, Marc Jacobs, has the answer. That answer is none other than layering, which can be seen in his fall 2016 ready-to-wear show.Â
Layering is so easy to do and it’s a fool proof way to solve most fashion dilemmas. Let’s say the forecast one day is all over the place. Just wear a jacket or two with whatever outfit you pick for the day, and you can take off or add layers depending on the temperature. Not only do layered looks add dimension to an outfit, they also allow you to show even more of your personal style with every layer added.
For my layered look I started off with a striped dress from Brandy Melville. This dress is super lightweight and comfortable which makes it perfect to layer things on top of it. Next, I kept it classic with a light wash denim jacket from Gap. In Marc Jacobs’ show, jackets were his layering go-to’s, so I also wanted to incorporate jackets in my layered look.
On top of the denim jacket I wore a larger army green jacket from TOBI. Army green is such a prominent color in fashion right now. Wearing it adds a trendy aspect to the outfit. To round out this weather friendly ensemble, I pulled out some of my favorite accessories. My trusty beanie is from Brandy Melville and it is one of my favorite items to wear during colder months. My black boots from DSW are classy and comfortable to walk in, and my Marc by Marc Jacobs bag adds that final pinch of spice that I love.
Layering is perfect for any place because you decide how much you put on based on where you live. If you haven’t embraced the art of layering, I highly recommend it; not only will you conquer the ongoing battle with Mother Nature, you will also look cute while doing it!
