STYLE GURU STYLE: Long Live Glam

The ready-to-wear fall and winter Saint-Laurent 2016 fashion show took place at the Palladiuim in Los Angeles, the perfect city for the collection. The line was so clearly a tribute to the Los Angeles’ music scene. Each look took major inspiration from glam rock and the people continuing to live a lifestyle of passion for fashion and music. The fashion show actually marked the fifty-year anniversary of Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. In honor of that anniversary, the current designer Hedi Slimane reused Rive Gauche prints with a modern twist.

The collection was made mostly of unisex looks with signature styles of military inspired jackets, silk bows, metallic glam boots, velvet blazers and modestly cut leather knee length skirts and dresses. The 94 looks give you a journey back to the days of glam rock with velvet, leather, sequins and cheetah print. The color palette for the collection being mostly black in different textures, lends itself to night time looks but I think it could easily be translated into daytime if paired with lighter items.

For my outfit, I took inspiration from look number 29 in the Saint-Laurent collection by wearing a tea length leather skirt. The collection was filled with gorgeous leather skirts both pencil and a-line. To translate the trend to my style I took a more feminine approach with a deep colored floral skirt. Paired with my skirt, I am wearing a cashmere crew neck light gray sweater, to allow the skirt to really stand out. My accessories consist of a simple leather and suede handbag and black suede pointed lace-up flats.
