STYLE GURU STYLE: Lost in Leather

It’s fall time again, Fashionistas, and that means blanket scarves, knee-high boots, layering and jackets galore. I know for me, the colder seasons are my favorite fashion-wise, allowing me to layer more and play with textures and prints rather than having to resort to outfits that make me sweat so much. Each time autumn rolls around, I keep an eye out for new trends that haven’t been worn years before. Don’t get me wrong, I love everything fall fashion wise. But in my opinion, the colors, scarves, vests and boot looks are all over, worn out and a bore. Thus, I turn to haute couture for inspiration in the department of innovation.

I always stock up my closet for the colder seasons, and my favorite piece this fall involves leather. Leather is a trend that can always work in the autumn time, not too hot or too cold to rock a light jacket or in my case, my favorite little leather skater skirt. Runways showed lots and lots of leather back at Paris Fashion Week for the pre-fall 2016 season—Chanel, Hermes, Moschino, Valentino and Louis Vuitton to name a few. Leather pants, shirts, skirts, trenches, etc. It’s in and it’s hot, Fashionistas (figuratively speaking, of course).

For my look, my focus piece is my leather skater skirt. It is one of my favorite pieces of all time- soft, durable and oh so stylish. It is versatile for the fact that it looks good with nearly anything. I chose to dress down the leather with a basic white T-shirt, softening my look. My trusty Levi’s denim jacket does the same, making my look still soft but put together. Simple, silver accessories keep the edgy look I already have going on with the leather. I went with simple, silver rings, embellished bracelets and a pendant necklace. Lastly, I finished the outfit with suede, over-the-knee boots, to give my outfit that one last point of edge. This is an outfit I will wear to school, work or out at night. Mix and match with the accessories and other jackets, and I can repeat this look for the entire autumn season.
