This summer, I’m interning in New York City and in this town, it’s easy to get lost in the crowds that fill the sidewalks from building walls to the streets. It’s also easy to feel insignificant fashion-wise because of all of the amazing pieces available on every avenue. The same goes for campus. There are so many people with so many different looks, so how does one Fashionista stand out from the rest? One simple way is by wearing a statement piece, whether it be an article of clothing, accessory or a statement shoe.
I found major inspiration from the Escada resort 2016 collection, which debuted a few looks with statement tops over simpler bottoms. With this inspiration in mind, I decided to take a boldly printed jacket and paired it with a black tank top, simple black pants and black sandals so as not to distract from the print.
Spicing up an outfit with a statement piece is a super simple way to take any look from zero to 100. However, its easy to over do the statement pieces. Take my look for example. Because I’m wearing a printed jacket with a higher cut around my neck, wearing a chunky necklace would’ve been very distracting. Instead, I decided to opt out of jewelry around my neck and wore a watch and stud earrings.
My main goal for this outfit was for the statement jacket to be the piece that people noticed first in my outfit, and by keeping my other pieces a neutral color, I achieved that goal. I love wearing statement pieces when I’m in the mood to stand out from the crowd and with this outfit, I did exactly that!
Get My Look: 1. A statement zip jacket. 2. Simple black pants. 3. Any piece of simple jewelry.
