Givenchy’s pre-fall 2015 collection caught my eye as it combined minimalism with a hint of menswear. The Paris-based brand started its collection off with sleek black and white pieces such as fitted blazers, tailored trousers and long peacoats. I loved that they also added feminine elements such as polka dots and florals to skirts and suits. Some pieces really screamed tough with their leather and fur combinations. There were many different components that brought this collection together which was created by Italian designer Riccardo Tisci. But no matter how varied each piece was, the cool-girl vibe Givenchy stands for shined through.
Being in love with menswear, but also having a feminine side, I decided to look through my own closet and recreate a Givenchy look. I grabbed my black turtleneck, a staple piece in my winter wardrobe, and my distressed gray denim. After being in Paris this past summer, I had to invest in gray jeans since every well-dressed girl I passed by wore them. I love that mine are distressed for that extra dose of roughness. To really emulate Givenchy’s collection, I grabbed my Sam Edelman moto-style peacoat with faux leather and fur accents. I love this peacoat because it has the structure of a men’s coat while still being fitted. If you are new to the menswear trend, I would definitely recommend buying a structured coat whether it’s fitted or oversized!
To complete my look, I slipped on my Dr. Martens Chelsea boots that are sleek black leather. These boots are very minimalistic and have a boyish fit. They complement my coat and turtleneck while streamlining the entire outfit. This is the perfect look for going to class!
